AMD plans major 2027 chip supply increase as AI demand surges

AMD plans to substantially increase chip supply in 2027 as artificial intelligence demand continues to outpace production, CEO Lisa Su said Tuesday in Taipei. The company has already increased supply during 2026 and now expects a larger ramp next year.

Su said her Taiwan visit aims to help AMD expand CPU and GPU production with local partners. She has met Foxconn and plans discussions with TSMC, while AMD is also working with memory-chip suppliers in South Korea. The company needs additional advanced wafer capacity to support demand, Su said.

AMD has rapidly expanded its AI-chip business and recently surpassed a $1 trillion market value. Su said demand should remain very high for several years, prompting AMD to plan its supply chain three to five years ahead. The company’s effort highlights the broader semiconductor industry’s struggle to add capacity quickly enough for AI infrastructure growth.

Why it matters

Higher AMD supply could support revenue growth as AI infrastructure spending expands. It also signals that semiconductor capacity remains a key constraint for the broader AI market.
