Ledger is investigating reports of cryptocurrency losses affecting customers in Southeast Asia who purchased hardware wallets through reseller CryptoBilis. On October 9, 2026, the company asked the reseller to suspend all sales and shipments while it investigates. Blockchain investigator Specter estimated that suspected thefts exceeded $86 million across Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tron networks. However, Ledger has not confirmed the estimated losses or established a link between every reported theft and the reseller.

Ledger advised customers who purchased devices from CryptoBilis within the past 90 days not to initialize them if setup has not begun. Customers who already configured their devices should consider transferring their assets to a new signing device with a newly generated recovery phrase. The company has not confirmed whether the incident involved tampered hardware, compromised recovery phrases or another security issue.

Meanwhile, blockchain researchers have identified suspected theft addresses receiving funds from wallets across multiple networks. An earlier estimate placed the losses above $72 million, before Specter expanded the reported total beyond $86 million. The number of affected wallets and the full extent of the incident remain unclear. Ledger said it would provide further updates as its investigation progresses.

Why it matters

The incident raises concerns about hardware wallet distribution and supply-chain security. Until investigators establish the cause, customers face uncertainty over the safety of affected devices and the extent of potential losses.
