Deutsche Bank plans European crypto custody for institutional clients

Deutsche Bank plans to launch digital asset custody for institutional and corporate clients in Europe this year, subject to regulatory clearance. The service will initially support Bitcoin, Ether, and selected stablecoins, including USDC, EURC, and EURAU.

The bank will manage clients’ wallets and private keys, positioning the offering as regulated custody rather than a crypto exchange. Deutsche Bank has previously explored digital asset infrastructure and worked with external providers, but the planned service would expand its direct role in institutional crypto services.

The move comes as major European financial institutions broaden their digital asset offerings. Meanwhile, regulatory approval remains a key condition before Deutsche Bank can launch the service. The bank also plans to expand its digital asset capabilities over time.

Why it matters

A major European bank entering crypto custody could give institutional investors another regulated route to hold digital assets. The service also signals continued integration of crypto infrastructure into traditional banking.
