Anthropic Haiku 5.5 cuts AI run costs 75% while boosting OSWorld

Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5 on Oct. 7, targeting high-volume enterprise workloads with lower costs and stronger performance. Anthropic says the model costs about 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5 on average. The company also reported a major improvement on OSWorld, where Haiku 5.5 scored 72.4%, versus 15.7% for its predecessor.

The pricing reduction is even larger for requests up to 100,000 tokens. Anthropic charges $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, compared with $1 and $5 for Haiku 4.5. About 90% of Haiku 4.5 requests fell into that lower-cost category. Meanwhile, Haiku 5.5 adds adjustable effort settings for balancing cost and intelligence.

The launch strengthens Anthropic’s position in a rapidly intensifying AI pricing race. Reuters said Haiku 5.5 is the third Claude 5.5 model released within a month, as Anthropic prepares for a potential IPO.

Why it matters

Lower inference costs could make AI agents more economical for businesses running large workloads. The performance jump also increases competitive pressure across the enterprise AI market.
