Allium Security Breach Disrupts Blockchain Data Services Used by Visa and Coinbase
Blockchain data provider Allium disclosed a security breach on October 28, confirming unauthorized access to certain systems on October 25. The incident disrupted services supporting blockchain analytics and data infrastructure. Allium serves major financial and cryptocurrency companies, including Visa, Stripe, and Coinbase. The company has restored its core platform but continues recovering affected features.
Following the breach, Allium restricted system access, notified affected customers, and hired an independent cybersecurity firm to investigate. The company began revoking existing API keys and instructed customers to generate replacements. Users must also reset passwords, while Allium recommends enabling multifactor authentication. However, the company has not disclosed which systems were compromised or whether customer data was exposed.
By October 28, Allium had restored its App, Explorer, and Explorer APIs. However, uploaded-data access remained disabled, while its AI Assistant and Model Context Protocol services were still unavailable. Data delivery resumed across Snowflake, Databricks, and BigQuery, although some historical gaps required backfilling. Allium plans to strengthen authentication and monitoring controls and publish its investigation findings after completing the review.
