79thVault Loses About $12.5 Million in Suspected BNB Chain Exploit
CertiK flagged suspicious activity involving 79thVault on BNB Chain on October 8. The incident reportedly moved about 16,200 BNB, worth roughly $12.5 million, to an attacker-controlled address. CertiK said the activity involved a privileged function that sold 2.01 million 79AU tokens.
The transactions followed an unusual pattern for the project’s operational wallet. Reports citing blockchain monitoring data said the wallet moved 79AU to external addresses before roughly 95 swaps drained the trading pool. USDT reserves reportedly fell from $15.2 million to $3.9 million, while 16,249 BNB was cashed out.
The exact source of the access remains unconfirmed. Some monitoring reports suspect a private-key compromise, while CertiK’s alert focused on the use of a privileged function. About 90% of the funds reportedly remain at an associated address, and the project has offered a 10% bounty.
Why it matters
The incident highlights the risks of privileged token functions and compromised operational wallets on BNB Chain. Further fund movements could increase pressure on 79AU liquidity and holders.
