Zcash Nears $1,400 After Holders Preserve Bitcoin-Style Halvings
Zcash climbed to about $1,388 Thursday as investors reacted to the NU7 governance vote. ZEC traded near $1,368 after gaining 10.9% on the day and 168% over 30 days. The rally pushed its market value to about $22.9 billion, according to market data.
Nearly 2.4 million ZEC participated in the NU7 vote, representing about two-thirds of eligible tokens. Holders backed keeping Zcash’s Bitcoin-style halving schedule by 98.9%, rejecting a proposal for smoother issuance. They also supported cutting target block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, while voting to ship NU7 with only features ready by Sept. 30.
The vote also favored delaying Network Sustainability Mechanism fee reissuance until February 2031. However, the governance decision does not immediately change the network. Developers must still implement, test and activate the approved changes. Zcash’s rally also follows growing market interest in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies and the recent availability of institutional exposure through a Grayscale ETF.
Why it matters
The vote preserves Zcash's scheduled supply reductions while targeting faster confirmations. The sharp price rise shows how closely markets are tracking the network's governance and privacy narrative.
