ShinyHunters Hacker Detained in Jordan as FBI Pursues Global Investigation
A suspected ShinyHunters member was detained in Jordan this week and is cooperating with the FBI, Reuters reported. Saif al-Din Khader, who allegedly uses the nickname Rey, was detained by Jordanian authorities, according to three people familiar with the matter. Two sources said he entered custody Tuesday.
Khader is helping the FBI and international law enforcement identify other suspected ShinyHunters members, two sources said. One source said investigators are reviewing his electronic devices and digital communications. The FBI declined to discuss the specific detention but said it continues to investigate the cyber incident and has already worked with partners to arrest multiple suspects.
The detention follows ShinyHunters’ claim that it stole data covering every FBI employee. Reuters reviewed a sample and found extensive personal, employment, medical and psychiatric information. The group’s dark-web site also went offline after the FBI publicly warned suspects that investigators were closing in. Meanwhile, another alleged member was recently detained in the Netherlands, increasing pressure on the cybercrime operation.
Why it matters
The case highlights escalating international efforts against major data-theft groups. Further arrests could disrupt ShinyHunters' operations and expose additional cybercrime networks.
