Ken Griffin’s Citadel Securities Expands India Presence With Nearly Double Office Space

Ken Griffin’s Citadel Securities plans to nearly double its office space in Gurugram, India, as it expands its trading operations. The Miami-based market maker will relocate from Two Horizon Center to a nearby Godrej Industries group tower in early 2027. According to a property filing obtained by Bloomberg through real estate analytics firm Propstack, the new office covers more than 12,800 square feet. Monthly rent stands at ₹196 per square foot, significantly above prevailing local rates.

The expansion reflects growing interest among global high-frequency trading firms in India’s financial markets. Citadel Securities has been recruiting traders and engineers to strengthen its operations. Meanwhile, Gurugram has emerged as a major algorithmic trading hub, hosting more than a dozen market makers and high-frequency trading companies. Propstack estimates typical office rents in the area at ₹130 to ₹150 per square foot monthly.

However, India’s tightening derivatives regulations present challenges. Regulators have introduced restrictions targeting speculative options trading, potentially affecting volumes and profitability. Despite these pressures, Citadel Securities continues investing in its Indian operations. The larger office will accommodate additional employees as the firm builds its long-term presence.

Why it matters

Citadel Securities' expansion highlights India's growing importance in global algorithmic trading. Increased competition could improve market liquidity while intensifying demand for specialized financial technology talent.
