Bybit CEO Says Pure Crypto Exchange Era Is Ending
Bybit CEO Ben Zhou said Thursday that the era of pure crypto exchanges is ending as users seek broader financial services. He made the comments as Bybit launched its “Make Your Move” global campaign, positioning the platform beyond digital assets.
Zhou said crypto traders increasingly want stocks, gold, forex, indices, derivatives and payment services in one place. Bybit already offers derivatives linked to stocks, gold and indexes, plus forex products. These instruments provide price exposure without ownership of the underlying assets.
The strategy reflects a broader shift among crypto exchanges toward multi-asset platforms. Bybit faces competition from established exchanges expanding into traditional markets, while several smaller crypto platforms have announced wind-downs amid weaker trading volumes and higher compliance costs.
Why it matters
The shift could reshape competition among trading platforms as crypto users gain access to traditional markets through unified accounts.
