Binance Pay Brings USDT Spending to PayPay Merchants Across Japan
Binance Pay now lets eligible overseas visitors to Japan spend USDT at most PayPay-supported merchants nationwide. The service launched Sept. 30 through HIVEX, a payment interoperability framework connecting overseas QR payment services with PayPay merchants.
Customers can pay from Binance Pay using USDT, while participating stores continue receiving settlement in Japanese yen. PayPay says HIVEX generally covers its offline merchants, excluding money-only and online-payment merchants. Binance said the integration requires no separate merchant registration for participating stores.
The move expands crypto payments into Japan’s established retail network as the country continues developing links between digital assets and everyday commerce. PayPay has also added other overseas QR payment services through HIVEX, including UnionPay App earlier this month. Binance and PayPay already have a broader relationship. PayPay acquired a 40% stake in Binance Japan in 2025, supporting closer integration between crypto and digital payments.
Why it matters
The integration gives stablecoin users another way to spend crypto in Japan while keeping merchant settlement in yen. It also highlights growing links between crypto payment infrastructure and established retail networks.
