Becton Dickinson plans $3 billion U.S. manufacturing expansion
President Donald Trump said Becton Dickinson will invest $3 billion to expand U.S. manufacturing of essential medical products. The announcement came Monday as the administration pushes companies to strengthen domestic healthcare supply chains.
More than $1 billion of the investment will go to Nebraska, Trump said. The company plans to expand production of products including needles made with U.S. steel. Becton Dickinson had not immediately responded to Reuters for comment.
The announcement comes as Trump pushes manufacturers to increase domestic production ahead of planned medical-device tariffs. Separately, the White House said BD is investing $110 million at its Columbus, Nebraska, plant to expand prefillable syringe production. That project is expected to create about 120 jobs and follows an earlier $35 million investment.
Why it matters
The investment could strengthen U.S. medical supply chains while supporting domestic manufacturing and jobs. For investors, the plan highlights how tariffs may influence corporate capital spending.
